Excellent book, but Kindle edition...
By Chris L
This is a truly excellent systematic theology. Unfortunately, the Kindle edition lacks page numbering. Since this book is most likely to be purchased for academic purposes, page numbering is absolutely critical. I had to buy the hard copy (which is pricey!) after already purchasing the Kindle edition. Amazon should indicate whether or not page numbering is available for this kind of book.

Review of the e-book quality, not of the content. The content is solid!
By Peter Chen
The design of the physical Hardback book:

This is a beautifully designed Hardback printed book. The main reading text is set at a good reading size font, bigger than needs to be (no need to worry about eyestrain for pastors who worry about that). Shedd's quotes are set a little smaller, but even then it is at a good reading size. Naturally the text for the footnotes are smaller, even as it is, it still is a good size font for those of us who read the notes. The Greek and Hebrew are set beautifully and Alan W. Gomes even provides us with the definition and the grammar. Gomes "supplements" Shedd's Dogmatic with his own input to the chapter found at the end of each section. This text is smaller and set apart by setting in a san serif font, which helps, because the "Supplements" text are set smaller than it could be.

The down side to the physical book is that it is really big and heavy. Had Gomes supplements been set at a bigger font, the book would had to be a two volume.

Overall, the physical book is beautiful. I would give the book a 4.5 out of 5 star. '''''

Kindle Version:
Because I like the book so much, I bought the kindle version too, for portability sake. After just a hour reading, I found a lot of problems with the Kindle version. The kindle version is very poorly put together. For example,
1.) when you select the "Go to" there is no table of content. There is one, but not by going to the "Go to". I had to flip the pages all the way back to get to it, or select "beginning" under "Go to."
2.) Some of the links to the footnotes do not work at all.
3.) Some words are entirely wrong: "ol" rather than "of", "asd" rather than "and"
4.) Word brakes "- " should not be in the middle of words "Armin-ian"; "perfec-tion"; many other broken words like this in the book. It is distracting and makes reading harder.
5.) The Greek and Hebrew words are fuzzy or even unreadable. It maybe too much to ask for the words to be retype-set in the universal web fonts (Amazon need to start supporting a Hebrew font, if it does not [I just found that it supports Arabic, so I am guessing there is a Universal Hebrew font as well.]), but the image of the words can be more clear and sharp if the resolution was not so low. A great example of this is Fundamentals of New Testament Greek [Kindle Edition].

Overall, the e-book is great for it's portability and easy word search. The price is much better than the printed one. I would give the e-book a 2 out of 5 star. '''''

This is a wonderful Theology book. P&R really need to do a better job with all their e-books. I find that many of the P&R books have similar problems. It is just simple HTML, it should not be so bad.

Please, please update this book and other books, and I will buy more of the e-books from P&R.

Dated but Untimely.
By Pastor Jim Gray
Shedd is a old standard theology work. One of the best and has stood the test of time. Dated but untimely. Although I am not reformed in theology, it is well worth having and reading. He is well worth the read. Challenging that will make you think. He is clearly Calvinistic. He is excellent on the subject of God and the Atonement. This theology cannot be overlooked, and deserves to be in every Pastor's library. It is still a top work of theology.
