Funny, frank take on anxiety

What makes this such a rare treat is that Dan is just a regular guy dealing with anxiety. As someone who has struggled with it myself, it's a really nice change of pace to see someone writing about fighting with it rather than dictating strategies for dealing with it from on high. Dan's funny, personable, and his journey to mental health is infinitely relatable. Mental illness has a nasty tendency to make sufferers feel like they're alone. Anxiety As An Ally is a frank, funny reminder that others have been there before.

I thought it might be a good read. This book isn't revolutionary

I'm a big fan of Game Informer and Giant Bomb. As someone that also struggles with anxiety and panic disorders, I thought it might be a good read. This book isn't revolutionary, by any means. He mentions exercise, yoga and meditation as various means for coping. He also gives a chronological order as to when he experienced his anxiety. This book just doesn't feel very personal or intimate, to me, which is what I was looking for. Dan is more of a technical writer than an emotional writer. Other audiences might enjoy this, but it didn't do anything for me.

If you think you're alone in dealing with anxiety-related issues, this book lets you know you are not. Plain and simple. Dan's book made me say "me too!" frequently and most importantly provided a sense of togetherness and comfort that is needed in the daily dealings with the little battles going on inside our heads, as well as a completely useful, easy, and practical way of confronting them.
