Contradicts everything I've been taught.

I'm not in the nutrition business, so I can't judge whether this author's research is correct or not. My son has type one diabetes and we were both told repeatedly about the good unrefined carbs apposed to the refined carbs. We were taught his sugar would spike with the refined carbs. We did not notice this. Seven years later, my son is physically active, eats whatever he wants, and monitors his glucose levels repeatedly through the day. His AIC is 6.6. He's doing very well. I have Crohn's disease. Four years ago I decided to stop consuming wheat, barley, rye and oats. Within 2 weeks the bloating, gas, gurgling intestines, and excess bowel movements I suffered from regularly dramatically decreased. I've had one flare-up in the past 4 years and I have not been on any meds in that time. I do not advocate that someone who has Crohn's not take meds. I, on the other hand, do not respond well to anti-inflammatory meds. It is amazing to me that anti-inflammatory meds can actually cause inflammation, but they do for me. My doctor adamantly disagrees with me.

Sorry to drag this review out. I am so blown away by this book. If Mr. Colpo is correct in his assessment and research of whole grains, then the public has been hugely misled, and this greatly pisses me off. This book was very informative and eye opening. I would most definitely recommend this book. Wow, the politics of the whole grain industry, who knew? Thank you Mr. Colpo. I will definitely read other books by this author.

It's hard to find such balanced concise summaries of important research

I couldn't have come across this book at a better time. I've recently been especially curious about the grain issue, and there's almost no way to get good info that isn't biased either direction (either the agri industry or crackpot conspiracy theorists).
I am a mum of four little kids under 5 and while it has been easy to avoid refined products and added sugar in our family diet, I struggle with reducing grain based products in my kids' diets. The kind of issues being, 'how much is too much' and 'am I taking all this too seriously'. It's like the last frontier for me. The information in this book will help me in my ongoing choices about achieving a balance for my kids that I can live with.
I've followed Anthony's work for several years and although he has a 'unique' way of stating his opinion which can come across a little inflammatory - but generally in a fairly entertaining way if you're sitting on the sidelines - I respect his research and his motives to write. Referring to his other books - the 'fat loss bible' is one of the only diet books I've read that makes any real sense with recommendations directly from the science, as opposed to folklore and myth (I got it about 5 years ago and still refer to it); the 'great cholesterol con' I've only skimmed because it holds little relevance for me, but I know people who've found it useful.
It's rather a shame that this kind of info isn't more widely understood by the health professions.

Very interesting

When I eat white rice, no bloating; when I eat brown rice, bloating. I always ignored that because, well, brown rice is healthier, so it must be something else, right? Now Anthony brings the data I need to stop ignoring the obvious. Recommended reading.

A Zinc Compound for the Ailing Stomach

This is a short book about the benefits of using zinc carnosine to treat ulcers. The authur, Dr. Georges Halpern is an MD with a PhD in Pharmacy. The book is divided into three sections 1. Peptic ulcer disease, 2. A short history of ulcer treatments and 3. A natural approach to treating ulcers tha focuses mainly on zinc carnosine.. Zinc carnosine and PepZinGI has been prescribed in Japan for treating ulcers for many years. Dr Halpern describes it's use for treating ulcers as well as a healing agent for the stomach lining a well. It is a well written book that offers a good natural treatment< with documentation, for ulcers and potentially other stomach irritations.

valuable information

The book makes a good case that zinc carnosine protects the stomach lining of people with ulcers. It follows that it would also protect the lining of other parts of the GI system, such as the esophagus. I got the book because of my concern for someone with Barrett's esophagus. He is now taking zinc carnosine (at the dose recommended by the author) twice a day. The author says to take it for only eight weeks, but what if one needs it indefinitely? I wish I had more information about zinc carnosine and Barrett's esophagus.

Pepzin GI Zinc Carnosine has worked very well for some chronic ulcer and gastritis patients

Some excellent patient outcomes have been obtained, using the Zinc Carnosine supplements discussed in this book. The science presented is solid and credible and the Zinc Carnosine has worked well for erosive gastritis and peptic ulcers, with considerable relief occuring in days.

One patient who had been on acid blocking medications for years required Vitamin B12 injections to treat her pernicious anemia.

At least one published study found zinc carnosine can reduce or prevent damage to the intestinal lining, caused by indomethicin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Measurements of urine Rhamnose to Lactulose ratios revealed zinc carnosine reduced excess intestinal permeability. Gut. 2007 February; 56(2): 168-175.

Since Zinc, Copper, Manganese and Molbdenum all compete with each other for absorption, testing for levels of all of these minerals would be wise, if Zinc Carnosine is continued for more than two months, since the recommended daily dose used in studies is 150 mg of Zinc daily.

Extended self medication with Pepto Bismol, can produce Bismuth toxicity and most of the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Changed my perspective of Life & Love

Romance yet again! Given that my take on romance changed after reading plenty of beautiful books, I decided to go ahead and read this book. Thankfully, I don’t regret my decision at all.

I have a soft spot for writers from my city. After all there are not many of that lot. This particular writer obviously is a hardcore Chennaite and has portrayed the beauty of the city – The lush Anna University campus and the beautiful foliage of Theosophical society.

Moving on to the important part – The story line. The summary was a bit misleading. I was expecting “a miracle worker” swamiji who would “use his powers to cure people”. Alas! there came this super cool practical and logical swamiji. Initially the characters were a bit confusing. But as the story progressed, things cleared up.
The writer has done a commendable job in handling multiple story lines belonging to each character. The shift of times lines were also smooth and easy to follow. But more than the story line, the emotions were over powering. There was a practical connect thanks to realistic and heavy emotions – love, hurt, anger, sorrow, disappointment, helplessness and joy.

One character that is worth the mention is sawmiji. The concept of brining in a swamiji into a romance genre of sorts may sound rather absurd. But the writer made a brilliant decision to do that in the form of a corporate trainer. After all, swamijis handling corporate aren’t unheard.

It’s again obvious that the writer has some insight about the functioning of IT companies, their organisational culture and the usual “corporate training programs”.

My only complaint – the editing could have been a wee bit better.
Overall, the book was neat, logical and practical.

VERDICT: Go ahead pick it up. It might even change your perspective of life and love.

but some omissions are just terrible. As an example

I have used spreadsheets since they first existed. I'm dealing with Excel for the MAC, but some omissions are just terrible. As an example, try to find the explanation for the Fill function under the Edit pull down doesn't exist. You won't find it in the index. I found numerous other examples when the text did not match the release and the Index failed. Copying cells with other cell references, do not adjust properly. I attribute this to poor programming.

The Best of All for Mac Excel

As with the majority of Excel programmers, I began using spreadsheets on the PC. When I much later switched to using Mac platforms, I could only describe the differences between the two Excel implementations as quirky, especially when it comes to dates. This book is the only one I have found that clearly explains all of the Mac nuances.

I love it, easy to follow

I love it, easy to follow, answered all of my questions. Did I say easy to follow? Yep! and I am not even a law student, I just had a bunch of questions. They should have this in all school libraries.

Con Law Primer

I gave this book a brief review. My daughter is presently in law school and it was a gift for her. It appears to give a good overview of concepts that can be very detailed. Also, Professor Smith was my Con Law professor at Cal Western in 1987.
