About the Author

Dr. Simon Monk has a degree in Cybernetics and Computer Science and a PhD in Software Engineering. Simon spent several years as an academic before he returned to industry, co-founding the mobile software company Momote Ltd. He has been an active electronics hobbyist since his early teens. Lives up to the title

I had a project in mind when I bought a Photon, but I didn't know how to make it all work. The information in this book was exactly what I needed to get my project running. The examples were easy to follow, and I was able to reuse a lot of the code. Overall, I was very pleased with the book, and I'd recommend it to other people looking for a good guide to working with the Photon.

Lots of filler but some meat

First of all I love Simon Monks books, he is one of the best maker authors out there. However this book is not one of its better efforts. There is a lot of fluff and filler in this short book. There are sections covering basic wiring/C programming conventions like variables, and conditional statements and how to use a breadboard. There are some useful examples but out of the 20 examples 10 are super basic an some are pretty much available in the cloud build IDE environment that you use with the Photon. If you arn't tied to the Photon I would really look into the ESP8266 12-E it has all the functionality, a open environment, and many more available library. I'm not sure why anyone would use a Photon over that device and I have both.

About the Author
Emma Dexter is Senior Curator at Tate Modern, London. She was co-curator of the exhibition 'Cruel and Tender: The Real in the Twentieth Century Photograph'. Other recent shows include a retrospective of Luc Tuymans, 'Pin-up: Contemporary Collage and Drawing', and a special installation by Bruce Nauman in the Tate Modern's Turbine Hall as part of the museum's ongoing Unilever series.

Another must have Phaidon book.

This is a book that when you first open it up and flip through a couple of pages you will be saying to yourself that you have to sit down with it for a long considered look. Myself, I just looked at the care that Phaidon press took while publishing this, from its rough artistic pages to the in-depth look at contemporary drawing and knew instantly that this was a survey book that I would be opening time and again for years to come.

The artists that are covered here are not neccisarily unknown. Pettibon, Peyton, and other long standing luminaries stand along side scores of other artists that I had never heard of. What it is, is a survey of non-illustration/often conceptualy based drawing that is occuring today be the artist known or obscure.

If you are into drawing, this is a must have book. One thing to keep in mind is that the format presented here is pretty much along the lines of Vitamin P and the three 'Cream' books. I think all four of these ranged from good to great, if you disagree with this sentiment, you might not like 'Vitamin D.'

Vitamin D is an outstanding publication of drawings from contemporary artists which shows great depth in both subjectivity and theme, the one overwhelming issue seems to be the quality of the reproductions within. Context gives us the reason for this.. in that these are works by CONTEMPORARY artists and as such have not been digitized as throughly as say the often if not OVER reproduced imagery of Leonardo or Michelangelo, so yes some of the reproductions are less stunning however they are more than adequate and what is more important, they are reproduced well enough to spark interest in seeing the original. Artwork can never truly be reproduced, you must experience the original to truly appreciate the pieces. However Vitamin D does what it was designed to, as did it's predecessor Vitamin P, giving a contemporary overview of works and the artists who create them which have yet to be studied. These books are history in the making and that alone gives them more merit than most art publications. This series is more than worth owning and will prove to be volumes you will return to again and again.

Refreshing contents but poor quality reproductions!

As an art teacher, artist and scholar I buyed the book for it's very interesting overview of contemporary drawing, a fiew of the artists I already knew. Maybe because of the thick matte paper used in printing, a lot of the drawings loose their sharpness and overall colourfulness and clarity. In comparing reproductions in other publications (e.g. "Drawings" Micha�l Borremans, edit. Walther K�nig, K�ln) one can only ascertain that the loss of quality is in fact unacceptable for such an ambitious publication like "Vitamin D". Moreover the bigger part of the art works are printed in a too small size for allowing a good viewing.

Ahhh...that Irish Accent!!!

Sibylla Matilde hits it out of the park with her new addition to the Copperline series while telling the love story of Denny and Felicity. These two were just right for each other, but Denny had huge guilt issues regarding his past relationship with his friend, Trent, when it came to Felicity. And, until he gets over those issues, his relationship with “Fliss” will never move forward. She’s all he’s ever thought about, though, and when they’re brought together during an unexpected plane ride bound for Dublin, those feelings are more pronounced than ever.

Wow! Denny was one back and forth conflicted dude! He wanted to get together with Fliss, but the guilt concerning his deceased friend just so much plagued his decision. And, Fliss she knew what she wanted. She wanted Denny, and nothing was going to change her mind once it was made up. This was one HOT book! I fanned myself quite often when these two were going at it and when other sexual situations presented themselves. I loved how a lot of the story took place in Ireland. Gotta love a guy with an Irish accent! It just made me melt into one huge puddle when the guy opened his freakin’ mouth to speak. Ms. Matilde just wrote the guy so damn sexy!! With his piercings, tattoos, and sculpted body he was one specimen of eye candy!! And, of course he’s a lead singer in a band, which is even more of a turn-on!!! Denny you’re such a wanker! And, Fliss was such a risk taker. The sacrifice that she made for him was an “ahhhh” moment! No matter what the consequence, she was his biggest supporter! She was strong and confident. And, she genuinely cared for the guy, even though he had a tough time accepting it. This was one passionate novel! From start to finish I was swept away by their story. And, Ms. Matilde’s ideas and writing just keeps getting better and better. Where do you come up with some of this stuff? Awesome to say the least! The only reason why I rated this book 4.5 stars instead of 5 stars was I just got a little tired of Denny questioning his loyalty to his friend. He was loyal as hell to him when he was alive because he didn’t act on his attraction to Fliss. But, Trent has passed a few years now, and it’s time to bury the hatchet so-to-speak. I’m sure Trent would want Felicity to be happy, and who better to have a part in that happiness then someone Trent could depend on. So looking forward to the next installment of this series when another band member, Cody, gets a chance to tell his story...

The Wanker is a Heart Throb !!

They say when you find your true love you know it, feel it and Denny wanted to taste it ! But when he met Felicity that day at Tech while she was on a High School trip he knew he had to wait for her and wait he did. He thought and dreamed about her everyday but knew someday she would be his. But then one day he knew she couldn't be his anymore and he lost his chance forever...but would forever be forever.

When Felicity showed up at that party with Trent, Denny thought his world was going to end, she wouldn't be his, he couldn't be hers, what else was there then for him ?? All he had left was his music but that would mean he would see Fliss with Trent and he didn't think his heart could handle it, so when ever he saw he he made it seem he didn't like her but deep down he loved her !! But sometime love just isn't enough if it is one sided and the other man happens to be a good friend, a brother but someone that brother doesn't deserve the love of a decent woman if he wasn't decent to her....n more ways then one.

Even when tragedy strikes Denny just can't let himself let her in because of the loyalty he felt for Trent but in return he was hurting and destroying Fliss in the mean time. Did he know that...NO.....would he ever hurt her....NO.....would things change once they both realize and actually open up truthfully to each or would so much time have pasted that even love couldn't save them or would Denny's citizenship play a part in there final undoing ??

This book grabs you from the beginning to the end....you wanted to yell and scream at them .....tell him, tell her .....dahm Fliss don't do that...Denny stay away from her.....this book was so well written between the Irish and English wording you are crying and laughing at the same time and Denny accent and slang had you at hi...oh wait that has no meaning you Wanker !! Absolutely Fantastic !! I cried laughed and loved Denny and Fliss !!

Well what is their to say but Sibylla, I loved it! Ooh and Denny is a wanker and eejit! Though he may be a wanker , which we already new from Post Breakup Sex, I love Denny anyway !

Why do I love Denny, well first off he is a transplanted Irishman from Dublin who came to the Staes, Butte Montana to be exact to attend Montana Tech , so of course one sexy Irishman is going to have a sexy brogue which is exactly what captures Felicity( Fliss) attention.
Denny an Felicity first meet when Felicity while visiting campus with her senior class becomes separated from them and wanders into a lab room that Denny is working in and within the first moments the magnetc chemistry is present.
Denny though he can be a wanker does the right thing to spite his attraction, she is under age he suppresses his urge to chase her and lay claim with the hopes that he will see her on campus in the fall and he can have a shot a her when she turns eighteen . The very hope of running into Felicicty is what keeps Denny attending classes because truth be known ; chasing an engineering degree just doe not hold his intrest anymore. Denny prefers playing and singing with his band the Bangin Mofo's and welding some beautiful metal art.
When Denny finally sees Fliss again, unfortunately hs waiting is not rewarded because it is in the arm of one of his freinds Trent , who makes it clear the ban when he introduces them that Felicity is off limits, everything in Denny is
screaming to stand up and shout that she is his , he saw her first; but honoring the Bro code wins out.
Denny winds up leaving college, moving out of Butte to Ophir to limit his exposure to Fliss , because well the heart wants what it wants and he can not have it !
So time and time again, Denny becomes more the wanker because if Fliss is around he makes like he can not stand her and leaves, that is till tragedy strikes and a moment of giving comfort turns into an ice melting kisss.
A kiss that only proves the chemistry between them never left ,but Denny just feels guilty even more so and drives Fliss away yet again.
Years later fate intervenes, Denny is called home to Ireland , his Nanny is ill and may pass. Denny's flight just happen to be with a traveling Fliss whom he tries to avoid until he hits the second leg of his trip and realizes that Flss is traveling and very sick herself . Denny ( the wanker) becomes the Denny the caring and steps unand takes care of Fliss and as it turns out does it all the way to Dublin.
These two have a push and pull relationship , at times you just one to grab one or both and smack them around a little , yell at them to open their eyes and stop fighting the inevitable.
Their journey is Captivating, enticing and frustrating and so worth the read; with every book I read from Sibylla I think this is the best yet but they just keep getting better!

Fan of Sibylla's already well quick grab this book, not a fan well it is a great time to start!

Wow. Now THAT'S how you write a gay convert.

Just like with Demetri in Maelstrom, Yamila has written a real-life straight boy who follows his heart into the arms of the man he belongs with, and she does it in such a believable fashion the characters will stick deep in your heart.

For fellow lovers of the "pretend boyfriend" trope, welcome to your new favorite story.

Ryan, the main character, parties just a little too incautiously his first year in college, and gets his due for it - the pretty boy gets tossed into prison at the tender age of eighteen, and we all know where that leads.

Except it doesn't. Ryan smartens up pretty damn quick once he realizes how much his life is about to change, and the best decision he makes is to put himself under the "protection" of fellow inmate Harrison, who is charismatic, older, wiser (seriously, the dude is really smart) and in the powerful position of boss drug dealer of the prison. He quickly learns that while Harrison is tough and in control, he's also kind, trustworthy, and a good friend. As he comes to rely on Harrison, he finds himself realizing he'd do anything for the man, and if what Harrison wants is a real relationship instead of a pretend one, well...

Harrison has been down in prison for years, and he's been around long enough that he knows sex is much more easily found than a real romantic connection. He's past that. He wants a "special friend" to get rid of the loneliness of prison, and sees in Ryan an opportunity to find that, but he doesn't just glance at his cute face and sign him up. At first he only pretends to take Ryan as his boy out of compassion for the new kid's safety, but once he comes to know Ryan's intelligence and personality as well, he decides they could have something real.

This story is well thought out, the prison setting is immersive, and Harrison's upfront romantic persistence lends a delicious overtone of sexual tension. (Early on, Ryan snarks that Harrison wants his ass, and Harrison tells him straight up that yeah he does, but he wants his heart first. The matter-of-fact declaration of intent renders Ryan speechless.) And when they do get into a sexual relationship, hoo damn. It may be winter but I didn't need as many sweaters on by the time I was done reading, that was for sure.

(IMPORTANT - For those negatively affected by stories about hardcore drugs, like me, the drugs are mostly just a part of the plot and prison culture. The characters are not featured as addicts and I don't believe its use in this story will trigger anyone.)

Unprison is getting a permanent slot right next to the Maelstrom compilation in my Kindle library. I can't wait to see what Yamila has for us next.

You Know What They Do to Guys Like This in Prison

Where do I even start? A premise like this is just too hot to handle, and full of great characters, rich plot development, and hot steamy sex. There's a beautiful slow burn throughout this, from our protagonist overcoming his fear of being incarcerated and getting used, to the suspense of what will actually happen to him (will he be protected? will he have any choice?). There's a couple times when you truly worry, but this book is excellently written and works through the emotions of showing just how love and acceptance can overcome fear and strange situations.

Plus, did I mention the steamy, hot sex? :D

Yaoi in a believable prison scenario.

Although the prison setting sounded like something I wouldn't be interested in reading, I am so glad I gave this story a chance. The idea of a prison m/m romance may lead you to believe it's going to be non-con or something, but it MOST DEFINITELY ISN'T. The relationship between the two characters starts as a platonic protector/protectee relationship and develops convincingly into romantic involvement. The characters were well-written and believable...I kept reading past the (amazingly hot) sex scenes just to find out what happens to the two protagonists. It is obvious that lots of research was put into developing a believable prison environment and relationship. The ending was not what I was expecting either. I was thinking "there's only so many ways this story could end, and not many of them are happy." But I was pleasantly surprised!

I am graduating from college and I just purchased this book to get ready for my first job after college. What information is out-of-date? I don't want to embarrass myself at my new job.

From what I have read so far, this is a good book. It offers a refresher on etiquette, and notes some things that I hadn't considered.

Just what I expected

I ended up getting an B+ for this one credit course. The book was easy to read and to the point. There are great stories as well as etiquette instructions with good explanations in it as well. The etiquette book was required materials for the course.

Extremely easy to read. Concise - 10-20 page chapters. Very informative. Good book to have even outside of the requirements for class.
