Dr. Chris Weber is the Deputy Director of the Washtenaw County (Michigan) Hazardous Materials Team.� He has been a firefighter for over 20 years and is an adjunct instructor with the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Training Center.� He has extensive experience involving hazardous materials chemistry including a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from the University of Michigan, and 15 years research experience in the biomedical sciences.� Chris instructs hazardous materials topics internationally, has developed numerous hazardous materials, counter-terrorism and incident command courses, and runs the training and consulting firm Dr. Hazmat, Inc.� He is the author of the "Pocket Reference for Hazardous Materials Response" published by Brady/Prentice-Hall.�

This book is a great reference and/or manual for a hazmat tech class. Covers all of the main job functions in detail. Hits air monitoring and plumbing harder than other similar books out there.

De Nys (George Mason Univ.) offers an ambitious, timely work on philosophical theology dealing with the fundamental religious concept of transcendence. Following an introduction, this work's eight chapters are 'Sacred Transcendence,' 'Religious Discourse,' 'Radical Self-Transcendence,' 'The Truth about Religion,' 'Religious Truth,' 'Pluralism and Religious Truth,' 'Aspects of the Conception of God,' and 'The Theory of Religion and Religious Inquiry.' De Nys' treatment of these topics is quite scholarly, analytical, and well documented. Unlike some other works on philosophical theology, this volume is commendable for its focus on religious pluralism and religious truth. However, not being a specialist on non-Western religions, De Nys uses such misleading phrases as 'the Hindu quest for Nirvana' (p. 107), which should correctly read as 'the Hindu quest for Moksha.' Furthermore, although he discusses extensively the concept of transcendence, De Nys does not offer a precise definition. Nevertheless, this is a learned and provocative work in philosophical theology. All students and scholars of religion will find this book beneficial and rewarding. Copious notes, a fine bibliography, and a useful index enhance the value of the work. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Upper-level undergraduates through faculty/researchers. --Choice R. Good overall review of pharmacy calculations

This is a recommended textbook where I work. I like the fact that it teaches concepts vastly differently from the required textbook that I teach out of....Thus, students who are unable to understand one way may be able to understand after using this text. I also like that students can write and practice problems directly in this book.

Great Reference for Multiple Classes

Is this book a "have to purchase" resource? No. I would expect that any college student who knows any high school algebra would be capable of figuring out the majority of this material. However, the style of the book's practice questions is excellent. It provides multiple examples, then practice questions with solutions, then further practice questions with answers at the end of the section. I found this book to be useful through pharmaceutics, p-col, kinetics, and compounding.

Bottom line: if you are on a tight budget and like to learn by practice (with explanatory solutions) then I would not pass this relatively inexpensive resource up. Out of all the text a pharmacy student buys, this text was one of the least expensive and most used.

I arrived at this book when searching for who's responsible for that splendid clear, simple style of writing of Readers' Digest. As I could not find a Readers'Digest writers handbook, I searched for who worked there, and found some reference to the author of this book. It is a good book, teaches you style and composition and is a good source for professional writers, but is not what I was initially looking for.

About the Author
DAVID ISAAC Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Builder who came from a background in economics and business studies into the property profession. He has some twenty years of experience in property development, finance and valuation and has project-managed a number of development schemes. For many years now he has been involved in property consultancy, education and research at the University of Greenwich, UK, where he is currently Professor of Real Estate Management, Head of Property and Land Management and Director of Research in the School of Architecture and Construction.
JOHN O'LEARY Lecturer at the University of Greenwich School of Architecture and Construction, UK. He is a Chartered Surveyor and worked as a planning consultant for architectural practices prior to becoming a lecturer.

About the Author

Padma Lakshmi is the Emmy-nominated host of the highly rated and critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning Bravo series Top Chef, and the author of two cook-books: Tangy, Tart, Hot & Sweet and the award-winning Easy Exotic. In addition to her culinary achievements, Lakshmi has contributed to such magazines as Vogue, Gourmet, and Harper’s Bazaar (UK and US), and penned a syndicated column on fashion and food for the New York Times. Her television-hosting credits include Planet Food and Padma’s Passport, as well as other programs in the United States and abroad. A global style icon and the first internationally successful Indian supermodel, Lakshmi also helms companies of her own such as the Padma Collection and Easy Exotic.

Lakshmi is a cofounder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America. Since 2009, the organization has advocated for early diagnosis, promoted research, and raised awareness in the medical community and the greater public about this devastating chronic disease which affects over 190 million women worldwide.�

Imagine sitting with a new dear friend, sharing a meal and childhood stories, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, asking "then what", and leaving mesmerized and amazed at the resilience a soul can possess. That is this memoir. I've watched Top Chef for ten (!) years, and have always been impressed with Padma's grace and poise, even while eating something less than appetizing (hunk of fat, anyone?). Beyond being beautiful, Padma guides the chefs and the show through each season with humor and a gentle touch. I decided to read "Love, Loss, and What We Ate" partly because of the title, and partly because of the revelation that she'd been molested as a child. As a survivor, I was dying to know how she came out on the other side. I got so much more. There is an immediacy and intimacy to this book, that feels like she is just sitting at my table, having a cup of tea, which I think is really remarkable for anyone sharing their story.

Padma Lakshmi's memoir has chaatpati

As a long time viewer of Top Chef and a modest supporter of the Endometriosis Foundation of America, I may have been predisposed into liking "Love, Loss, and What We Ate". With that said, Padma is a gifted storyteller, using vivid details of sight, sound, smells, touches, and tastes to transport you to her experiences in India, Europe, and the United States. There's flavors for every reader's palette: from her immigration story growing up between 2 cultures, fans of Top Chef will enjoy her behind the scenes anecdotes about the show, the highs and lows of relationships, and mothers everywhere can identify with journey into motherhood.

I was struck by the honesty and introspection in which Padma discusses very difficult topics like childhood abuse, the dissolution of her marriage with Salman, diagnosis of endometriosis, pregnancy, and the tragic passing of Teddy. Beyond the physical scar on her right arm suffered in adolescence, Padma shares her mental and emotional scars, revealing a vulnerable, insecure woman who persevered to achieve the success and acclaim that she has.

With a combination of joy, sorrow, sensuality, grace, and a dash of humor, Love, Loss, and What We Ate is a soulful memoir that has chaatpati. Bravo Padma!

This is his fourth collection of short stories and frankly we're just as surprised as anyone that he is continuing to write them. But here it is. It helps if you have a good imagination. That's not to imply that we think if you don't enjoy it then you don't have a good imagination. It's certainly not a litmus test for creativity. All we're saying is that it doesn't hurt if you're a little off. If you're looking for us to try and talk you into it than I think you've clearly overestimated our interest in your reading it. But having said that, if you've already invested this much time in reading the description what's the worst that could happen if you gave it a shot? Exactly. You've been warned.

Random Randy Ramblings

I was given this book in return for an honest review. Wow, this book is hilarious, but if you are offended by off color humor, take a pass and don't bother reading my review. I loved the fact that this book jumps from one random topic to another. Brushing teeth, itches, the Iditarod, hippo's, Movie snacks, sex, sports, lemon drops, the economy, and so on. You get the idea. Each of these Random Ramblings will make you laugh, or at least snicker. Full of offensive hillariousness, yes I made up that word, but it applies to this book completely. "I have to admit the picture in my head of two little legs sticking straight out of a steaming hippopotamus turd is both sad and hysterical." or "If brushing my teeth felt like jerking off, you wouldn't even be able to look at my face when I smiled, for fear of being blinded." If you want an easy read, that you can pick up and put down whenever you need a good laugh, this is definitely the book for that.

Incredible book!!

Holy hell. After reading this clearly ADHD, OCD, and perhaps bipolar (but who am I to judge?) authors' work, I must confess that I have a legitimate craving to read more. Almost in the way your mom tells you not to date the scary looking dude with a mohawk & tattoos, but she's "out of date" and just doesn't get it. 10 years and 5 kids later you wonder what happened to your life, and perhaps wonder if you should have listened to your mother. But-oh, this isn't about me. This is about THIS book.

I loved this book. Couldn't put it down. Couldn't stop from chuckling (ok, sometimes snorting) loudly at work (which usually gets scornful looks. Eff em.) Couldn't stop rolling with laughter while driving in the car (I don't recommend that-the cops didn't find is as amusing as I did). Couldn't stop reading various passages out loud to random strangers (which also would gain scornful looks, and one restraining order threat. Haters.)

And all joking aside, the passages were very succinct, clear and well written. I suppose you have to have a brain that flows that way in order to understand the "way" its written. But if you don't get it, then you perhaps never will. This book-ahhh, I felt things. Very moving and very powerful things. I could laugh hysterically while reading one story, then the next I was bawling like a baby for nearly 20 minutes. Damn-need a warning on those. I won't spoil it for the other readers as to how or why. But to Mr. Manion, sincerely- thank you. Thank you for reminding me that life is just a bunch of short stories all compiled together, never really here nor there. There are good ones and bad ones. Funny and sad. I'm just one person, but I am very happy to have found your work. Thank you~

This isn't more insane than the world. No, really!

The world of today is beyond crazy, with our political process at its most corrupt and the citizenry everywhere, particularly our most vulnerable and innocent, on the brink of calamity and potential harm every moment, the world needs, no, REQUIRES, some occasional relief from the madness. Lance Manion, because of these needs, comes across as a veritable hero.

Yes, people. Lance Manion is a modern hero of these days and times. With his irreverent wit, unique observations of what takes place daily, and possessing an unusual amount of knowledge about women who, well, you know, his latest installment of the genius of Manion, Homo Sayswhaticus, is absolutely indispensable. These blessedly pointless and uplifting diatribes are the perfect panacea required by a people on the edge of the Zombie Apocalypse.

The individual citizens are so uptight that their backsides are more watertight than that of the average giant squid. You see, I chose the deep sea squid because they go deep in the water and therefore the pressure is, well, just go with me on this, people, and calm down. The point is, people need, just need to loosen up before the world takes seriously yet another rambling from some North Korean hotshot. Hey, just like Bieber sings in his song...Shove me back into the shallow waters before I get too deep...

Okay, I know Bieber didn't sing that, but I like random mentioning of people who are famous for mysterious reasons. Kardashian! There, I did it again. But the point remains that Manion helping us remain in the shallows with his quirky points of view, along with the fact that we must all admit that, yes, we, too, are tired of brushing our teeth all the time.

Do you see where we're going here? For the love of all that's good in the world, what does it take? People, you need to read Homo Sayswhaticus for the very safety of the future of the world! In fact, buy gobs of copies and send them to dictators, politicians, and the WBC. Because, wow, oh, wow, do these people need to lighten up! And don't just read this work, but all of Manion's books, blogs, and even his diary, too. Because we need to teach this world to get off the high horse, stop being such a bunch of weenies, and have a good, fun laugh once in a while.

Or are you one of those wacky nutjobs who thinks it makes sense that TV shows advertise their own show during their own show? If you are, there's still hope, but wow do you have a long, long way to go.

For the world containing the highest population of criminally insane doofuses, there is hope and the doctor is in.

The doctor of the cure of pointless mania is Lance Manion, and he's on the job.

Lance Manion, for these reasons, is a veritable superhero, my friends. He is a superhero and I so can't wait to see him in tights that I am almost in pain from the anticipation. But you good people don't require the pain; just read the works of Lance Manion and experience the sensation of fun and relaxation at your own pace. But hurry it up, will you? This planet can't take much more.
